One such major step taken by the global institutions is accepting the Duolingo Tests and its score for language proficiency assessment from this September Intake itself. Few might be aware of Duolingo and for few of you it might be new.

It is an American platform which consists of a language learning medium on website as well as mobile application. This Language Learning Application started to roll out in 2011 and is currently heading $700+ business with 300+ million users worldwide. This computer adaptive language proficiency test consists of 4 core English Language Skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, but all jumbled together without genre segregation.
It is a 1-hour test for which the student can appear from anywhere with just having a computer and a decent internet connection. Yes, you read it right during these COVID 19 times you can safely appear for Duolingo online test from home.
DET being an adaptive testing system every next question will be asked based on the performance in the previous questions thus upscaling the level of difficulty with every given correct answer. Depending on your ability the test software will properly evaluate your proficiency.
Once you are done with the 1 hour long test you will get the results in just 48 hours. The test also integrates a video interview and writing sample, which are sent to an institution along with the proficiency score.
The plus point is that with the preparations of IELTS, TOEFL or PTE or any other traditional tests also you can appear for the DET.
Quick Setup: In the first 05 minutes of the test you will be introduced to the DET and various rules and requirements.
Adaptive Questions: For next 45 minutes, there will be sets of questions which will test your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and abilities.
Video Interview: Last 10 minutes will consist of a video recording of the answers given by you for the questions displayed on the screen. This section has 2 parts to it.
• 1st Part - You are expected to pick a topic out of the given 2 choices within 20 seconds and talk about it for 1-3 minutes.
• 2nd Part – Once you are done with the 1st part you are again expected to pick a topic out of the given 2 choices on which you need to write for around 3-5 minutes.
The charges to take this Duolingo online test are $49. The best part of DET is that you can take multiple numbers of Practice Tests before applying for the main test. It would excite you to know that the score reporting is free.
Note: You can attempt DET for 2 times within a span of 30 days and not more than that.
As per the latest information available the countries which are accepting DET score as an English Proficiency Assessment are as follows:

• Canada
• UK
• Ireland
• Rest of the Europe: Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain
