Has Ireland extended Post-Study Work Eligibility for international students who have been studying remotely due to COVID-19 impact? Is this a fact?
Yes, it is and a ray of hope to international students.
Owing to the impact of Covid-19 worldwide, Ireland is allowing international students who are at present in their second semester of programmes in Irish higher education institutions but studying remotely outside of Ireland, to remain eligible for post-study work rights.
Isn’t this a great news for all those who would like to study in Ireland.
The best part is that the temporary flexibility is comparable to that in Australia, Canada, and the UK and in fact this is more generous than current rules in the US and New Zealand.
Though this is temporarily adjusted it is no doubt a key immigration policy which will have substantial impact on international students in light of COVID. Ireland has brought this policy into effect as an effort not only to protect students’ ability to stay in Ireland after their studies to work but also to discourage students from travelling back to Ireland during COVID. So, this policy would be in the best of the interests of international students as well as the Irish citizens in these testing times.
International students studying online and/or remotely in their second semester of an Irish higher education programme will remain eligible for the Third Level Graduate Programme (1G) for a short time.
International Students who have returned to their home countries due to the pandemic or those who have not been able to obtain an appointment because of COVID restrictions can submit their applications, along with scan copies of required documents, electronically to the Registration Office, Burgh Quay, Dublin. Students have to register in Ireland when they are able to return to the country.
The applicants need to submit a letter from their higher education institution stating that:
Apart from the above-mentioned criteria, they also have to submit a letter from the relevant awarding body or institution to prove that they have achieved the award for which they were enrolled as a student.
