As such, to address record migration and the challenges that come along, the Australian Government has implemented a substantial increase in student visa fees. As announced recently, the student visa application fee for Subclass 500 visas will now be AUS$1,600. This change is already in effect from 1 July 2024, and it signifies a notable 125% hike from the previous fee of AUS$710.
Apart from the changes in visa application fees for the main applicant, the Government has also revised charges for the accompanying applicants. For each accompanying applicant aged 18 years and above, the additional applicant charge will be AUS$1,445. For accompanying family members under 18 years, the additional applicant charge will be AUS$390.
| Following this announcement, the Minister for Home Affairs Clare O’Neil stated, "The changes coming into force today will help restore integrity to our international education system, and create a migration system which is fairer, smaller, and better able to deliver for Australia.” |
This is yet another important change for international students that was announced in recent months. Previously, the Government had made changes to the minimum fund requirements for student visas and announced the end of visa hopping from visitor to student visa for Australia.
