Don Heflin, Minister Counsellor for Consular Affairs US Embassy in New Delhi has recently confirmed that India has become the top country to send students for higher education in USA.
Up till last week the US diplomatic missions in India have successfully issued 82,000 student visas between May and June 2022. This record-breaking number makes India the topmost country in the world to get highest number of US student visas issued.
In a recent interview with ANI, Mr Don Heflin spoke about India’s new record, he quoted "We issued 82,000 student visas this summer which is a record for us. Last year we set a record of issuing 62000 and the interesting thing is that this year because of the Covid related problems in other countries, India is the number one country for sending students to US colleges and Universities," |
For achieving this stupendous number, the US Embassy in New Delhi and four consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai had prioritised the student visa applications from May to August. This ensured that all the eligible students reached the US on their scheduled timeline. This year Indian students moving to the US have exceeded the number of students from China and other parts of the world. The good news is that the embassy is also working on visa delays, and they expect to have 100% staff by summer 2023.
Furthermore, Heflin also added that the US Embassy in India would accept visa slot bookings by recruiters, study abroad consultants and agents. However, students should be vigilant about anybody who encourages to use false statements and fake documents. Such practices might lead the students into serious trouble for their visa processing. |
