Overview

Victoria University of Wellington is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious institutions renowned for its academic excellence. Founded in 1897 the university began teaching in 1899, with research initiatives led by pioneers.
 

The university has three campuses, with Kelburn as the main hub centrally located in Wellington City. The Pipitea campus is home to the Wellington School of Business and Government and the Faculty of Law. The Te Aro campus is the heart of Architecture and Design programs.

Victoria University of Wellington intakes deadline may vary for certain postgraduate programs which have early application deadlines due to their selection process. Irrespective of the study level or program, students should apply as early as possible to have time for visa and accommodation. 

February: This is a major intake that has a wide range of PG Diploma, Masters, UG Diploma and Bachelor’s courses available. July: The is a major intake that has fewer number of PG Diploma, Masters and Bachelors courses available compared to the February intake.

Victoria University of Wellington fees differs depending on the courses students choose. The total fees of the course is calculated by adding the fees of each individual course based on the level, per point cost of the subject area and the point value of the course.

Scholarships to study at Victoria University of Wellington

Victoria University offers a variety of scholarships for both domestic and international students. Victoria University scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need, sports excellence or other specific criteria. The university also offers tools for students to find the right scholarships for them.
 

Scholarships for international students are available across various disciplines and study levels. Eligible international students can receive scholarships of up to AUD 20,000.

Admission Requirement

There are different requirements for international students to study at Victoria University of Wellington. The requirements differ from country to country and for different levels of study.
 

Students who do not meet the requirements can opt for pathway programs or foundational studies Masters and Bachelors levels respectively. For students that do not meet their English proficiency score requirements, VUW offer English for Academic Purpose courses to meet their study goals. Given below are the academic requirements for Indian students on Masters and Bachelors level at VUW.
 

✅ Equivalent of a Bachelor’s (undergraduate) degree from a recognized institution with at least a B- average. 
✅ A background in a particular subject area may be required or recommended. 
✅ Entry is at the program director’s discretion.
 

✅ For English language proficiency, students can choose IELTS Academic, TOEFL, and PTE.
✅ For IELTS Academic students need 6.5 with a minimum band score of 6.0.
✅ For TOEFL iBT students need a minimum score of 90 with a section score of 20 in writing.
✅ For PTE students need a minimum score of 58 with a communicative score no less than 50
 

✅ Minimum overall average of 75% in CBSE, ICSE or HSC Certificate issued by Maharashtra, Karnataka or West Bengal State Board
✅ For those with a Higher Secondary School Certificate issued by all other India State Boards, a minimum overall average of 80% is required.
✅ Or students need to complete general secondary education and successful completion of one year of undergraduate degree study at a recognized tertiary institution (min. GPA may be required)
✅ Another option is the completion of the Victoria University of Wellington -Foundation Studies Programme or other recognized foundation program.
✅ Or they need an International Baccalaureate Diploma (min. 24 points) or an equivalent internationally recognised high school qualification.

 

Note for points 1&2: The academic scores are calculated on the best four academic subjects excluding local languages and non-academic subjects
 

✅ For IELTS (Academic): A minimum overall score of 6.0 bands with no sub-score below 5.5 bands
✅ For TOEFL iBT:  A minimum overall score of 80 
✅ Pearson Test of English: Minimum score of 50 with a Communicative score of not less than 42.
✅ For those with CBSE ICSE, or HSC certificate issued by Maharashtra, Karnataka or West Bengal State Board, a minimum of 65% in English fulfills the English-language proficiency requirement. 
✅ For those with Higher Secondary School Certificate issued by all other India State Boards, a minimum of 70% in English fulfills the English-language requirement.
